B Eats II remix (2/9/05)
There is still time to send in your remixes.
I'm really not blown away by most submissions and I'm thinking
about taking the remixes into my own hands. Looks like this may
be the end of another era. I don't know if most of you are just
not inspired by the beats or just lazy. I am already working on
illy B Eats 3 !! and will make another remix record with or without
you (whoever you are)!!
PS- I would like to thank everyone who did send in remixes (all
25 of you).

B Eats II (9/27/04)
After releasing the second volume of drum breaks "illy B Eats Volume
2" (CD & Vinyl) I have received some submissions for another
possible remix record (Drop The Needle AMT008). I'm still not sure if
I will put together another remix or not. It really depends on the music
and collaborative efforts and feedback of others. I am very happy with
this second edition of breaks and several DJ's seem to dig it. So, feel
free to send some ideas or remixes to "illy Eats" Amulet Records,
PO Box 311, Closter, NJ 07624-0311

The last minute rush of music came in as I predicted and I'm blown away
with a lot of it . I haven't meticulously counted them all but, my estimate
is about 62 different submissions received to date. They have come from
Japan (1), Canada (1), USA (60+) & the UK (1).
At
this time, I have been notifying potential candidates for the remix project
with questions regarding samples. Some of you have done a great job with
using other artists samples but , it makes it almost impossible to use
some of that material because of sample clearance bureaucracy, copyrights,
publishing fees, etc... Others have used a combination of performance
with obscure and original samples that work really well. I cannot give
everyone a personal critique of their submission. You will hear from me
soon if I am considering using your track for the record. If you want
to make sure I have received your CD: email me at billy@amuletrecords.com
and I will let you know eventually. Please be patient.
I
think we already have a great record with the outside submissions alone.
I will still include a few special guest "celebrities" to play, sing or
rap along with some tracks and hopefully, some new hot remixes from a
few of them.
I
have a couple of new MP3's (that may make the final double CD compilation!)
for your dining pleasure: Stainless Steele and DJ Image's "Salt Water",
Sex w/Robots' (from Sacramento, CA) "Moderndicksealand" & Spacefuzz :
"Flying Saucer". Just a glance of what's to come!
Thank
you all for participating and supporting Amulet Records,

Things are developing nicely with the illy B Eats compilation project.
After playing with Kid Koala and DJ P-Love on Halloween, I've asked
those two bad asses to collaborate with me. P Love is definitely
available in December and we will get together in the studio along
with Miho Hatori (Cibo Matto) and maybe Smokey Hormel (Beck, Tom
Waits guitarist). Both Miho & Smokey have a new band Os Afro-Sambas
that I have had the pleasure of playing with. Others may include
the horn section from the Brooklyn based Afro beat group Antibalas.
DJ RPM sent in another smoking track that I will include (check
out the soundbite to the left). But, I will probably have a guest
vocalist redo the singing and add some prose. The submissions are
very slow but, I know we'll have a slight rush by the end of the
year. I know of a couple of friends that will deliver soon. I'm
hoping to have at least 2-3 more head bobbing submissions from strangers
that kick ass. One person from Japan sent in an all vocal composition
added to the beats and it's hilarious. It borders on 20th century
modern classical and bad- soul singing. I don't think I will use
it entirely but, may use his sick intro. Scotty Hard and I will
spend a couple of days recording, mixing and spinning our ideas
including some tracks from the live Turntable
Sessions that he contributed to. P love used some of my beats
on the upcoming MMW Blue Note 2002 spring release that should prove
to be very cool. I may add some MP3's later in December. So, keep
in touch!

So
far the submissions I have received (20) in general, don't cut the
mustard. Except for one dude: DJ RPM (click the link to download
a sample). This dude is so bad ass that I will probably collaborate
with him on other stuff for the compilation. He calls himself a
"cowboy phonographologist" and I'm very fortunate to hook up with
him. A lot of other peeps said they're working on mixes but, I haven't
seen or heard shit. The deadline is December 31, 2001. So
get it together. This is your chance to get your bad ass self up
and out on the streets, homes and radio stations of the minions.
Some
musician friends who are working on a mix for the compilation: DJ
Logic, Cyro Baptista, John Scofield, Scotty Hard, DJ Olive. I will
get Steve Cannon to read from his book "Groove, Bang and Jive Around".
I may use the live Turntable
Sessions recordings with DJ Olive , Ikue Mori, John Medeski,
Chris Wood, DJ Logic, Mark Anthony Thompson, Mike Ill, Daniel Carter,
Charlie Burnham Dean Bowman, Marty Ehrlich and Scotty Hard as source
material for other tracks.
I'm
very confident that this record is going to kick ass. This is a
dream for me that started way back in the late 70s' when I entered
into hip-hop awareness.
