DAVE BURRELL & BILLY MARTIN

CONSEQUENCES

Dave Burrell: piano
Billy Martin: percussion, drum set

*Exclusive performance at Vision Festival, NYC

An extreme improvised musical journey led by two distant generations of avant-garde expressionism. This live concert was captured at UPENN, Philadelphia's Houston Hall in front of a 200+ audience eager to hear the unique and fresh chemistry. These free spirits let loose - blurring, exploring and exploding the boundaries of a great American art form. This is the impromptu meeting of two unique musical personalities in one particular week of October 2005.

Dave Burrell has forged his own unique avant-garde style of playing since the 1970’s in NYC where he played with Albert Ayler, Pharoah Sanders, and David Murray but is also very accomplished in the music of Jelly Roll Morton. Billy Martin, best known for his percussion and drumming with his avant-funk band Medeski Martin and Wood and John Lurie’s Lounge Lizards has been experimenting with many forms of experimental, African, jazz, funk and classical music.

"Dave Burrell, a consistently insightful pianist who writes engaging melodies (a rare talent) and interprets Jelly Roll Morion as a valued muse. ...is a scintallating solo performer." - Gary Giddins, Village Voice

"Martin uncoil’s like a botanist who has built his dream house somewhere below the canopy." - CMJ
